How do I clean my holster?
Cleaning your holster is pretty straightforward and doesn't require a lot of specialized tools or products. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do it:What You'll Need:
- Warm water
- Mild soap or dish detergent
- Soft cloth or sponge
- Tootbrush (optional, for hard-to-reach areas
- Dry towel or cloth
Steps:
- Remove any contents: If you've got your firearm or accessories in the holster, make sure they're removed before cleaning.
- Wipe off loose dirt: Use a soft cloth or dry towel to wipe off any visible dirt or dust from the surface of the holster.
- Prepare the cleaning solution: Mix some warm water with a few drops of mild soap or dish detergent. You don't need anything too harsh-just enough to help break down oils and dirt.
- Clean the holster: Dampen a soft cloth or sponge with soapy water and gently scrub the holster. Focus on any areas that seem dirty but be careful not to soak it. You don’t want water getting into any hardware like rivets or screws. Doing so may cause them to rust. For stubborn spots or areas with deep creases (like near the trigger guard or where the retention system is), you can use a toothbrush to scrub.
- Rinse and dry: Dampen a soft cloth or sponge with soapy water and gently scrub the holster. Focus on any areas that seem dirty but be careful not to soak it. For stubborn spots or areas with deep creases (like near the trigger guard or where the retention system is), you can use a toothbrush to scrub.
- Check the fit: Once cleaned, make sure the retention is still functioning properly. (Kydex is pretty durable, but it's still good to double-check).
That's it! Your holster should be good to go. Just remember, don't use anything abrasive like rough sponges or harsh chemicals, as they could scratch or degrade the Kydex.
How do I maintain my holster?
Maintaining your holster is key to ensuring it lasts a long time and functions properly. Here’s a guide to help you keep it in great shape:
- Regular Cleaning: As mentioned earlier, regular cleaning will prevent buildup of dirt, oils, and grime, which can affect both the fit of your firearm and the holster’s overall durability.
- Frequency: Depending on your environment and how often you use it, clean your holster every few weeks or after heavy use (e.g., sweating, rain, or dusty environments).
- Cleaning Method: Use mild soap, warm water, and a soft cloth or sponge. Avoid harsh chemicals that could degrade the material.
- Check Retention: The retention of your holster is the system that holds your firearm in place. Over time, the retention can loosen due to repeated draw and reholstering. The screws will try to back out over time too.
- How to Check: Test the retention by drawing and reholstering your firearm. It should click into place with enough force to stay in the holster but not too tight that it’s difficult to draw.
- How to Adjust: If the retention feels loose or tight, you can adjust the bottom screws or tension screws on the holster. These are the screws closest to the trigger guard. Tightening them increases the retention; loosening them decreases it.
- Tip: Always make small adjustments—just a quarter turn at a time—and test between adjustments to avoid over-tightening.
- Inspect for Damage
- Screws and Rivets: Inspect the screws, rivets, or clips that secure the holster together. Over time, screws can loosen, or clips might wear out. Tighten any loose screws with a screwdriver, and replace any damaged hardware.
- Holster Clips: If your holster uses belt clips, make sure they’re not bending or losing tension. If they seem damaged, you can replace them easily.
- Avoid Extreme Heat
- Storage Tips: Never leave your holster in direct sunlight or a hot car. Keep it in a cool, dry place when not in use.
- Avoid High-Heat Situations: If you’re wearing your holster in a very hot environment (like in extreme sun or near a heat source), be cautious, as the Kydex could soften and lose its form. It’s best to store it out of direct heat.
- Avoid Excessive Moisture
- If Wet: If your holster gets wet (e.g., from rain or sweat), wipe it off and let it air dry. Don't leave it in a damp environment. If left wet for too long, it could lead to rusting of any metal components or mold growth.
- Storage: Ensure the holster is completely dry before storing it away.
**Do NOT use your holster if you notice any issues with its parts, loose hardware, broken components, or anything that could impact the functionality or fit, it’s essential to address those problems before you continue to use it.**
While Tyson Holsters® are water-resistant, you don’t want to expose your holster to excessive moisture for long periods, especially in high-humidity environments.
With this regular care, your holster should last a lifetime.

What should I do if my screws keep loosening or fall out of my holster?
Over time, screws may loosen due to vibration or regular use. For holsters, you need something that provides secure fastening but also allows for adjustments if necessary. Tyson Holsters® recommends using Loctite Blue 242 Threadlocker. Loctite allows you to use on screws that you made need to adjust or remove later (like on your holster).
Why should I buy a holster from Tyson Holsters®?
Choosing Tyson Holsters® over other materials comes down to a balance of durability, functionality, and personal preference. Kydex® has some distinct advantages that make it a top choice for many gun owners. Plus, all our holsters are handmade in the USA using 100% USA MADE parts and pieces.
- Durability & Strength. Kydex® is a thermoplastic, meaning it’s tough, rigid, and can withstand a lot of wear and tear. Unlike leather, which can stretch and wear down over time, Kydex® retains its shape and structure.
- Custom Fit & Retention. Kydex® can be molded precisely to the shape of your firearm. This allows for a perfect custom fit, meaning your gun will sit securely in the holster with excellent retention. Tyson Holsters® have adjustable retention screws, allowing you to fine-tune the fit based on your preference. This level of customization is not always possible with other materials like leather, which may need time to "break in" to a good fit.
- Speed & Ease of Draw Kydex® holsters typically have a very smooth interior, which allows your gun to be drawn quickly and easily without resistance. The design of Kydex holsters can also incorporate features like a positive "click" when reholstering, which lets you know your firearm is secure.
- Lightweight. A lightweight holster is more comfortable for everyday carry, especially for long hours. You won’t feel the added weight as much, making it easier to carry concealed or open, without it being too bulky.
- Consistency in Shape and Retention. Kydex® remains rigid and keeps its form. This consistency ensures that your firearm always fits the same way in your holster, making it easier to reholster and draw without worrying about the fit degrading. Leather holsters, for instance, may require periodic adjustments as they break in, while Kydex holsters are stable from the start and remain so.
- Low Maintenance. Kydex® requires very little maintenance compared to other materials like leather, which can require conditioning and care to prevent it from drying out or cracking. A quick wipe-down is all that’s needed to keep it in good condition.
- Variety of Designs and Features. Kydex can be molded into a wide variety of shapes and configurations, allowing for a lot of customization. You can find IWB (Inside Waistband), OWB (Outside Waistband), appendix, or even paddle-style holsters made from Kydex. The material allows for thin designs, good concealability, and different attachment options (like clips, loops, or belt attachments).
- Affordable & Customizable. If you're looking for a good, reliable holster that doesn’t break the bank but still offers a high level of performance, Kydex is a great option. Plus, the customizability in terms of color and design gives you the option to make your holster unique to your style.
- Weather Resistance. Kydex is highly resistant to extreme temperatures, moisture, and harsh weather conditions. Unlike leather, which can become stiff, cracked, or misshapen from water, Kydex won’t absorb moisture or degrade when exposed to the elements.
- Professional Appeal. Kydex holsters are often associated with tactical and law enforcement uses, but their sleek, modern design has made them popular for civilian use as well. They tend to look more "professional" and have a no-nonsense, efficient appearance.
Will your holsters accommodate after market gun parts?
Our holsters are designed for firearms in their stock configuration, meaning all the original parts that come with the firearm when you first purchase it. This includes standard sights, safeties, and other original features.
Our holsters can accommodate suppressor height sights and a RMR.

I don’t see my gun model available on your website. Can I still get a holster made?
Unfortunately our holsters are completely model specific. If you don’t see your model listed, we don’t currently offer it. However, things change and it’s a possibility that we will offer it in the future. To make a suggestion to our team, please email info@tysonholsters.com with “Model Suggestion” in the subject line along with you name, phone number and firearm suggestion.
Will Tyson Holsters® cause wear on my firearm?
With regular use, it’s natural for some wear to appear on your firearm’s finish, even with a holster. To minimize this, it’s important to keep your holster and firearm clean. Much like any tool, your concealed carry weapon will inevitably show signs of wear over time, and these marks are a natural part of everyday use.
If your firearm is a collectible and you don’t want wear on it, we recommend getting a glass case for that firearm and purchasing a new one for everyday use.
